Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer A. Rollins is a B-1 instructor weapon systems officer at the 28th Operations Support Squadron, 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. Duties include instructing and training aircrew in B-1 tactics, techniques, and procedures as well as supervise a 28-member team who inspect and maintain 500 pieces of lifesaving equipment.
Lieutenant Colonel Rollins was commissioned in 1995 as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. She is an experienced joint weapon systems officer, having demonstrated aviation combat leadership in the B-1 and the Navy’s EA-6B electronic attack aircraft. Several times she has served as a Flight Commander, earned instructor status in both aircraft, and has flown combat missions for operations Northern Watch, Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom.
In addition to performing her aviation duties, she has acted as the B-1 liaison officer at the United States Central Command Combined Air and Space Operations Center, focusing on exercises and contingencies. When first assigned to Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, she held a variety of assignments. The lieutenant colonel coordinated an air show, led the wing’s operational readiness inspection team, and assisted during the Department of Defense Base Realignment and Closure process, helping remove the base from the closure list.
Following her aviation assignments, Lieutenant Colonel Rollins served as Chief Exercise Planner and Chief of Standardization and Evaluation for United States European Command’s Air and Space Operations Center. During this assignment she led the planning and execution of a major command-directed joint exercise, and she also participated in the successful preparation for the unit’s first compliance inspection. The lieutenant colonel deployed to Baghdad in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom to conduct electronic warfare for the Army where she was assigned to the Joint Counter-Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device Electronic Warfare Composite Squadron.
After serving European Command, Lieutenant Colonel Rollins assumed the duties of the United States Senior Defense Official, Defense and Air Attaché to Sierra Leone, Africa. As such, she was the senior military advisor to United States Ambassador as well as designate of Secretary of Defense, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Chief of staff of the Air Force, Commander Africa Command, and Director Defense Intelligence Agency to lead all United States-host nation military engagements.
