Maj. Bob Liebman (USAF ret) recommends(2-18-17) the Gary Sinise video ("Soaring Valor") to remember the Honor Flights of WWII veterans to Washington, DC's National Musum.

As they did during World War II, veterans are coming forward from small towns all across South Dakota, and especially from the Black Hills.

Congratulations to 2011 and 2010  WWII
Honor Flight veterans, including Charles Anderson, Peter Dahlberg, Russel Frink, Gordon Lease, Leonard McVay, Paul Priest, Les Snyder, as well as flight support Pat Asmussen, Bill Casper, Larry Huddlemeyer, Sam Mclroy, and Sue Wheeler
As Peter summarized,
"We had a great Honor Flight to D.C.  Enjoyed seeing the WWII Memorial as well as many others.
Everything was well planned and carried out. Had a royal welcome home.  Far more fan-fare than the1st homecoming after the war.  Weather was a bit warm in D.C., but not unbearable."  Pat added "I think we ran them all ragged but I don't think a one of them would give the trip back!"

In 2009,
congratulations to Group members Jerry Teachout (USAAF-USAF) and Harry Putnam (Navy) and Jim Lockhart (Navy) for being selected by the Honor Flight program (widely supported in the Black Hills) for an all-expenses-paid trip to the WWII Memorial in Washington.  Loyd Brandt (Marines) almost went, but had to scuttle plans at the last minute.  Their plane left Rapid City on August 28, 2009, at 5am and returned the next day at 930pm.
Group members MSgt. Travis Bolt and Pat Asmussen went on the Flight as support.  Further applications are being accepted from WWII veterans for upcoming flights from other South Dakota cities.

Honor Flights from several states came to the Memorial on the same days as the contingent from the Blacks Hills.  Photos can be downloaded free from online (most are 4-5MB).

Jim and Travis were identifiable in various photos, and Roy Roadifer of Custer (Marines, Okinawa) was one of the few close-ups, posing with Bob Dole:
